Weddings at the Lobster Pot in Newport, RI

If you're dreaming of a wedding that captures the essence of coastal New England—fresh ocean air, sweeping harbor views, and food that actually lives up to the hype—The Lobster Bar in Newport, Rhode Island is a venue worth your full attention.

This isn't your typical ballroom or banquet hall. It's something better: personal, scenic, and distinctly Rhode Island.

Located right on Newport Harbor in the historic Point Neighborhood, it’s a fantastic location right in the center of Newport’s action. AND, The Lobster Pot offers one of the best views in town. Picture this: sailboats drifting by during your ceremony, golden-hour photos framed by the bay, and a reception where every table has a view.

The Lobster Bar has been around since 1929. It’s a family-run institution, not a corporate chain, which shows in everything from the service to the food. There's an authenticity here that many venues lack. Locals know it for its seafood, charm, and old-school New England vibe. Out-of-towners walk in and immediately get it. This is the real deal—not a glossy replica. Hardwood floors, classic nautical decor (without the kitsch), large bay windows, and an intimate yet open space that feels elegant without being uptight. It’s relaxed, romantic, and distinctly Rhode Island.

The name says it all. Lobster is the star, but the menu goes far beyond the claw.

Wedding menus at The Lobster Bar feature:

  • Raw bar setups with local oysters and littlenecks

  • New England clam chowder (done right)

  • Filet mignon, pan-seared scallops, and vegetarian entrées that don’t feel like an afterthought

  • Custom desserts or cake service, depending on your preference

Bonus: You’re not locked into generic “wedding packages.” The chef works with couples to design menus that match your taste and your guest list!

The Lobster Bar team offers in-house coordination to help simplify planning. They’re seasoned pros when it comes to small and mid-sized weddings and know how to make the day run smoothly without micromanaging every moment. Many couples also hire a separate wedding planner or day-of coordinator to handle the full logistics, but for the food, flow, and atmosphere, the venue team holds their own.

It’s Rhode Island charm without the pretense, and your guests will feel like they’ve been invited to something real, not rehearsed.

This venue was absolutely perfect for this couple. They are college sweethearts, with an enormous group of fun college friends in attendance, and they LOVE to party! I love getting to see my clients with their people. Typically I will have seen them in our initial meeting and again for an engagement and boudoir session, so I know them pretty well by the time the wedding rolls around. It’s a whole new thing however when they’re surrounded by the people who matter.

We did some getting ready pictures at Newport Harbor Island Resort, and then at Brenton Point before heading downtown for the ceremony. The couple’s beloved pup got to come along and enjoy the experience too!

They also had my PhotoBooth at the reception, which guests went NUTS with! It has a rim light and self-service option so guests can take pictures of themselves, record themselves, or create a funny gif and immediately text the file to themselves!

This couple is so, so loved and cherished by their people. It was wonderful to witness and capture so much laughter and so much genuine happiness for them.
